Founded in 1977, Machabeng College (machcoll.co.ls) will shortly celebrate its 50th anniversary as Lesotho’s only international school.  It enjoys a stunning hilltop location beside the Royal Palace in central Maseru, Lesotho’s capital.  The College’s Patron is Her Majesty Queen ’Masenate Mohato Seeiso, a former student of Machabeng College and a frequent visitor.

With a well-earned reputation for educational quality and a strong global perspective, Machabeng College is an independent, international, day-and-boarding school serving almost 500 students in grades 7-12 that offers both the IGCSE and IBDP programs, and its graduates attend universities in many countries around the world.  

Machabeng College’s mission is to provide excellent pre-university international education, serving as Lesotho’s premier educational institution.  A new Strategic Plan has been approved, defining a clear pathway to advance in the coming years.

The Principal reports directly to the Board of Governors, which is the governing authority of the school.  The Board comprises 9 members who represent the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) [2 members], parents [3 elected members], Local Government [1 member], the Chief of Ha Hoohlo, the West Maseru district where the College is located [1 member], the teaching staff [1 member], and the Principal [ex-officio member who also serves as Board Secretary].  The new Principal will receive enthusiastic support as CEO from the highly committed Board which has a clear understanding of the essential working partnership between Governance (the Board) and Management (the Principal and the staff). 

The Kingdom of Lesotho is one of Africa’s best-kept secrets.  Known as the “Kingdom in the Sky” because of its location in the high mountains of southern Africa and encircled by the Republic of South Africa, it offers outstanding outdoor activities such as hiking in summer and skiing in winter as well as the physical and cultural riches of a UNESCO world heritage national park.  Lesotho has easy access to nearby game parks in neighbouring South Africa and the stunning coastal city of Cape Town, and it enjoys good international air links to the whole world through three daily flights to Johannesburg from Maseru’s international airport.
